Maxima on Android 3.2.1

Maxima, a comprehensive computer algebra system, is now available for use on Android mobile devices. Maxima, along with its predecessor Macsyma, is renowned as one of the oldest software systems in the world, originating back in the 1960s at MIT LCS and Project Mac. This powerful tool enables users to execute a wide array of mathematical operations including integration, differentiation, matrix operations, handling rational numbers, as well as providing symbolic treatment for constants such as pi, e, and Euler's gamma among others. Additionally, users can delve into both symbolic and numerical treatments of special functions like sin(x), cos(x), log(x), exp(x), zeta(s), and many more.

The introduction of Maxima on Android represents a conversion of the original software to the Android operating system. Sylvain Ageneau's efforts in porting Embeddable Common Lisp to Android have allowed the latest version of Maxima to seamlessly operate on ECL on Android with minimal alterations to the source code.

Maxima on Android is a fusion of various open-source components including ECL on Android, MathJax, and Maxima itself. The development process involved implementing around a thousand lines of Java code and a hundred lines of HTML featuring JavaScript code.

The installation package for this software requires 90MB of storage space, with 30MB designated for internal memory installation. The remaining 60MB can be installed either on external or internal storage options. During the initial launch of the apk file, users will be prompted to select their preferred location for the 60MB installation.
